JPS appeals $65 million awarded to Rosemarie Samuels

NOVEMBER 4, 2020: Samuels bought the property in 2003 to venture into chicken rearing. However, for four years as she could not modernize the chicken houses because of overhead power lines and poles across the perimeter. Samuels then took the JPS to court for trespassing and won.
The court held that once the land was registered to a new owner, any previous licence granted to JPS for erecting and maintaining power lines became null.
It said by law, the JPS was supposed to seek legal approval from Samuels as the new land owner.
Now, the wait is now on for the appeal hearing as the JPS challenges the Supreme Court ruling.
