PM Mottley announces measures to address crime situation

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley says her administration is prepared to amend the Bail Act to prevent murder accused from being a threat to society.

In making the announcement, she’s also warning perpetrators she will not allow them to hold the country to ransom.

Ms. Mottley says it will be part of efforts to address the crime situation across the island.

She was speaking at a press conference at Ilaro Court this afternoon.

Government has also agreed to the establishment of a serious organised crime unit to be manned by the Barbados Police Service.

While acknowledging community policing remains a critical component in the crime fighting efforts, Prime Minister Mottley says Government has also agreed to deploy the Police Band in communities.

She says members of the Band will complement the ten community officers already in the field.
