Jamaica’s Trade Deficit Widens As Export Earnings Fall 1.6 per cent | Business Day

Jamaica’s merchandise trade deficit widened during the first four months of the year as import spending increased while exports declined.

Between January and April, the country spent US$2.5 billion on imports but earned just US$547.4 million from exports, resulting in a merchandise trade deficit of approximately US$1.96 billion. The latest figures highlight Jamaica’s continued reliance on imported goods and the growing imbalance in trade.
