Government is considering the introduction of regulations that incentivise people to build their homes with fire-resistant materials.
The revelation from Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley, during the Debate on the Barbados Blue Green Bank Bill in the Lower House.
She has expressed concern about the number of uninsured houses being destroyed by fire.
The Prime Minister says Senior Minister Dr. William Duguid has been tasked with identifying materials for Barbadians that can boost resilience and reduce their insurance exposure and premiums.
Prime Minister Mottley will also be seeking input from professionals on the country’s building code.
She notes the traditional gable roofs have proven more resilient than the flat ones that have become more popular.
