Call for national effort to deal with homeless camps

President of the Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness, Kemar Saffrey is calling for a national effort to deal with homeless camps across Barbados.

Mr. Saffrey was tending to a homeless camp at Worthing, Christ Church.

He says for March alone, 16 people reported homeless.

Mr. Saffrey was speaking following a video making the rounds on social media after Christ Church South community activist, Adrian Donovan brought the situation to light.

Meanwhile Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey notes family intervention is important before a person becomes homeless.

He says he has already directed the Resillience Unit to Worthing to see what intervention can be given.
