Lavanya Williams Stepping Up

Jamaica’s Lavanya Williams produced one of the standout performances at the sixth Felix Sanchez Classic in Santo Domingo, winning the women’s 100 metres in impressive fashion.

Williams opened her day with 11.15 seconds in the heats, before stepping it up when it mattered most in the final. She powered to victory in 10.90 seconds, with a legal following wind of 0.7 metres per second.

And it was a Jamaican one-two.

Ashanti Moore, who had run 11.07 in the heats, returned to clock 10.97 seconds for second place.

The Dominican Republic’s Liranyi Alonso completed the podium. She improved from 11.11 in the heats to 11.05 in the final.

So, a big night for Jamaica at the Felix Sanchez Stadium — Lavanya Williams taking the victory, with Ashanti Moore right behind her.
