SAN JUAN – To increase investment and place Puerto Rico in a global position for sustainable tourism, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) agreed to hold a summit on the island at the end of the year.
As part of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur by its Spanish acronym), WTTC Vice President and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Maribel Rodríguez held a meeting with PRTC Executive Director Carlos Mercado, PRTC Promotion and Marketing Director Imaris Arocho, and Air and Maritime Director Alejandro Caicedo to discuss the initiative.
“We are very excited to carry out this project together with the WTTC, at such a crucial time for the recovery of global travel and the tourism sector, positioning Puerto Rico as an ideal and safe destination for international events,” Mercado said in a press release. “Without a doubt, the global entity is a fundamental ally in managing our plans focused on driving the economic development of our island.”
Meanwhile, Rodríguez noted that for the WTTC, “it is an honor to work together with Puerto Rico, a member of great relevance with which we wish to strengthen global efforts to promote travel and tourism.”
“We will continue working together to facilitate the prompt recovery of tourism activity through the implementation of best practices and investment,” Rodríguez said.
