The Barbados Workers Union is calling on Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. to immediately fix the air conditioning system in the screening area.
This follows a brief work stoppage by G4S security officers yesterday.
BWU’s Communications and Information Manager, Cheyne Jones confirms 15 G4S workers were compelled to withdraw their labour in the afternoon, due to health concerns.
He says the union has repeatedly highlighted the intolerable heat caused by the malfunctioning air conditioning system.
Mr. Jones says the union has taken note that while technicians were called in to address the malfunctioning air condition, GAIA security personnel who stepped in to ensure operations were not disrupted were given an additional fan as well as water.
Meanwhile, Corporate Communications Specialist at GAIA, Sharleen Browne says despite reports of a work stoppage, all airport operations will continue to operate without delay.
