DESCRIPTION
Caribbean music varies across the region, and can include rumba, salsa, reggae, and calypso styles. This music typically makes liberal use of percussion instruments like the steel drum, shakers, and claves. It is heavily influenced by musical traditions brought to the Americas by enslaved Africans (See African Music). Trade and immigration have over time introduced a variety of Caribbean music into nearby Florida. The Key West Junkanoos, Rasta Samba Gynin, and Kiki Wainwright are examples of artists performing Caribbean music in the Sunshine State.
